Dr. Zhongtian Zhang
Huge congratulations to Zhongtian Zhang (aka Nemo) who passed his final defense! Dr. Zhang will soon begin work at Amyris. Nemo was a trainee of the Microbiology Graduate Program at NC State. His work involved the identification, characterization, and application of a novel CRISPR-Cas system. Ph.D. #14 for the Williams Group!
Biosensors for guiding engineering of macrolide biosynthesis
We are thrilled to share our latest work in developing biosensors for guiding macrolide biosynthesis! This is the product of an ongoing collaboration with Ashton Cropp’s group at VCU and was led by Williams Lab graduate student, Yiwei Li. This novel biosensor will allow us to search for and evolve novel enzymes for macrolide diversification. Dr. Li is now an associate biostatistician at PPD.

Publication in Nature Communications
We are thrilled to share our latest polyketide synthase engineering work by Edward Kalkreuter and our collaborators at the University of Michigan in Nature Communications. This work sets the stage to further diversify the structures of macrolides for drug development and discovery.
